Overview of Hornitos prior to the 1930's. The big white building in the center is the Hornitos Hotel, no longer standing. The white building in the center at top is the St. Catherine's Catholic Church, still in infrequent use today. In this photo, the usually gentle creek is nearing flood stage.
Ruins such as these adobe ruins dot the Hornitos landscape. The remains of Ghiradelli store are in the center of town. Ghiradelli began as a merchant in Hornitos before going to San Francisco and becoming world famous for his chocolate.
This early postcard shows the Masonic Lodge on the left and the Plaza Bar on the right. The brick buildings in the center have been torn down. The Masonic Lodge is the only one in California which allows meetings to take place on the ground floor. This building was a bakery and restaurant in the 1800's.
